Welcome to this blog that explores meditation, metaphysics, and higher states of consciousness. As these topics are discussed on future posts, it is my hope that this provides useful information in our collective self-discovery.
As a baseline for our discussion, we need to understand the entirety of our system. I’m sure many of you have heard the saying that “we only operate at 10% of our capacity.” I first heard it many years ago, but no one ever explained what the other 90% would be. I didn’t know if this meant that I could perform complex math in my head, or run 100 miles, or fly through the air like superman. On this blog, I hope to address some of this 90% to help give us an idea of what is possible.
If we don’t know what is possible and what we might achieve, we are often left floundering in the dark without clear direction. Once we begin to see some options, we can then take action to start moving toward a specific goal. We’ll take one of my examples from above. It is possible to run 100 miles. There are races called ultramarathons that can be as long as 100 miles. And there are people who finish the entire distance.

Knowing that achievements like this are possible is the first important step. It is then planted in our awareness and we know that the human body can endure the rigors of running extremely long distances. Of course, a couch potato can’t simply decide one day to lace up their shoes and head out for a 100 mile run. The preparation isn’t in place.
This leads us to training and development as the second important step to meet our goal. To run 100 miles, we would have to start with smaller distances and slowly build our way up. We may find that we need to get a coach to help us develop a training program. Given that this is such a difficult goal, we may also have to engage other experts to support us in different ways. Perhaps a nutritionist can help us choose a diet that gives us the energy we need. Perhaps a massage therapist or sports medicine doctor can help us recover from strenuous training sessions.
A third key element for our ability to accomplish a goal is to analyze and understand ourselves. If, for example, I have an injury that prevents me from training, then I won’t be able to build towards my goal. Or if I cannot devote the required time to my training program, then I can’t build the base fitness to complete long runs. So we need the ability to reflect upon our current state and determine if there are deficiencies that can be addressed.
This example of long distance is no different than the meditation and spiritual explorations that we will be discussing in blog posts. First, we need to know what states of consciousness can be attained and get some sort of inkling of what that means for us. Second, we need to understand what practices can support us in moving toward a higher state of consciousness. And third, we need to analyze ourselves to see if there are areas that we can strengthen which may be an obstacle to realizing a higher state of consciousness.

This blog will explore these three main areas to provide some sort of map as we continue to explore the capacities we have latent within us.
States of higher consciousness bring feelings of joy, peace, love, and unity. I have found that after I experience an increase these feelings, that my life is changed for the better. This drives me to continue learning more and trying operate in a higher state of being on a daily basis. It can be exhilarating. It can be challenging at times. But this has led me to a greater understanding of the nature of existence.
